This dashboard visualizes real-time climate data using public APIs. It does not collect your location — geolocation is used only to show your local temperature and is processed entirely in your browser. No data is stored, shared, or sent to any third-party servers.

The map displays satellite imagery from NASA GIBS, with overlays for active fires, sea surface temperature, thermal anomalies, sea ice concentration, vegetation health (NDVI), and snow cover. The data is updated every 5 minutes to provide the most current information available.

All data is fetched from public, open-source APIs. No data is stored or shared. The dashboard relies on the following services:

Global Temperature: Reanalysis data from ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts). The anomaly is calculated relative to the 1951-1980 baseline. A positive anomaly indicates warming above the historical average.

Sea Surface Temperature (SST): Measured via satellite radiometers and in-situ observations. The global average SST is approximately 16-17°C, with significant regional variations. Rising SSTs contribute to more intense hurricanes, coral bleaching, and marine heatwaves.

Arctic Sea Ice: The minimum extent typically occurs in September, with the maximum in March. The Arctic is warming nearly four times faster than the global average, leading to a decline of ~12-13% per decade in summer ice extent. This has profound effects on global weather patterns and ecosystems.

Snow Cover: Northern Hemisphere snow extent measured by satellite. Snow cover reflects solar radiation back into space (albedo effect). As snow cover decreases, more solar energy is absorbed, accelerating regional warming — a feedback loop that amplifies climate change.

Active Fires: Thermal anomalies detected by MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) on NASA's Terra and Aqua satellites. These include wildfires, agricultural burning, and volcanic activity. Fire seasons are becoming longer and more intense due to climate change and drought conditions.
